SUR-PRISE

Mister Brogan....
He has had quite the last couple of weeks...  Last week we got him eating about 20 mls of Elecare it is a type of formula that is supposed to be really easy for preemies to digest!  He did ok with it, he was throwing up a lot after we would get done with his feeds but within a few days they decided to put him on Neosure 22, another kind of formula that is a little tougher to digest but has better nutrition then the previous formula...  The reason they are trying formulas is because we have a short supply of breast milk and they did not want to waste it, they say that once he is doing great with the neosure we can switch him to breast milk and he will be fine to digest that!  Anyway he has done about the same with the new formula so on Monday and Tuesday they were beginning to become a little concerned as to why he was throwing up so much.
Tuesday afternoon I was told that he might have had pyloric stenosis...
Basically there is a muscle that kind of wraps around the bottom of our stomach and sometimes in infants that muscle gets to tight and it causes them to projectile vomit because food cannot pass through the stomach onto the small intestine to be digested!  I asked the doctor fully knowing what her response was going to be, "what do we do to cure it if he has it?"  SURGERY!  I could not believe we were back to the drawing board with another surgery!  To state the obvious Tuesday was not a good day, I have wanted my baby home for ninety one days and we have been so close to bringing him home twice now...  talk about a tease!  Wednesday morning they did an ultra sound and thank goodness his stomach looked fantastic!
NO SURGERY for little man!
As Wednesday went on the doctors came in and talked to me and said we are going to advance his feeds by 10 mls a day, that is a big deal people, and we are going to pull his feeding tube out today, another HUGE DEAL!  It was the weirdest thing Tuesday we were looking at another surgery and Wednesday we are two steps closer to home!  I shouldn't say it is weird that is a miracle!
Yesterday when I got to the hospital they told me they were going to advance his feeds 4 mls every other feed which is a grand total of 16 mls per day...  So naturally I began to figure in my head when he would be up to full feeds FRIDAY EVENING!  To think we are that close!  They also told me the one thing I have been so patiently waiting to hear,
"WE NEED YOU TO BRING IN YOUR CAR SEAT!"
The NICU has to monitor the little ones in their car seat to make sure they don't stop breathing while sitting in it, usually when that test is done and they pass you are sent home within a couple of days!
So pretty much this little monkey man is ready to come home and working his little patootie off to get here!  He has surprised us all!
The best kind of prize is a SUR-PRISE!

I am so proud of you Brogan Scott!
